As a student in the George Brown Digital Marketing Post-Graduate Certificate program, I am currently completing my internship experience with Tea With Tracie, a family-operated small business based in Oakville Ontario.

This is the first time the company has hired an intern to help with social media and marketing, so my manager and I needed to find an effective way to communicate and collaborate when working from home.
To help ensure we are on the same page and constantly updated on what is going on with the business, I suggested we use a productivity tool/platform to keep everything organized. My manager thought this was a great idea and signed up for the platform Trello.

With the platform Trello, we set up various boards, lists, and cards to keep track of current and future products. Before each day of work, my manager will update a list of tasks for me to complete. Once these tasks are completed, I can check them off my list which is instantly updated for my manager. This way we can quickly communicate to each other which tasks have been completed and what still needs to be done. Setting up these project management platforms has decreased the amount of time it takes to communicate simple things and ultimately increase our productivity.

Other actions I have taken to work effectively with my manager are listening and discussing the products available in her store. My manager would like to add a new product line into her store but continuously second-guesses if it’s the right move for the business to make. I helped put things into perspective of how this type of product would resonate with a younger demographic. Tracie took my points into consideration and decided to add these new products to the store. This is super exciting because now I will be able to get a better understanding of how to add new products to the shop, as well as promote them on various social media platforms.
I look forward to continuing these efforts to make work more efficient with my manager, however, I will also continue to look for more ways to keep our workflow productive.
