5 European Destinations to Cross off Your Travel Bucket List

kaileighleclair

If you’re anything like me, this pandemic has really put a damper on any travel plans. Until the COVID-19 pandemic emerged, my family and I would plan an annual summer vacation to visit new places we’ve never been before.

Cruises are our favourite way to travel because we can easily visit multiple destinations all during one trip. Spending a few days in each destination gives you a chance to see which places you would like to visit again. I’ve been on cruises to the Caribbean, New England, Bermuda, Hawaii, and Alaska, however, the destinations on European cruises are by far my favourite.

Since I haven’t been able to travel during the lockdowns in Ontario, I’ve reminisced about my past adventures and made a collection of the first places I want to revisit once I’m able to.

If you’re dreaming about your next vacation, keep reading and check out my Top 5 Favourite European Destinations.

Ahh Paris, the city of love and lights. If you love beautiful architecture, fascinating museums, and delectable cuisine, then Paris is the perfect place for you. The capital of France is one of Europe’s most visited places and it’s easy to see why.

A must-see when in Paris is, of course, the Eiffel Tower. Tickets range from 10,50€ for access to the second by stairs, to 26,10€ for access to the top by elevator.

Of course, there’s more to Paris than just the Eiffel Tower, including other famous attractions like the Louvre Museum – the largest art museum in the world and home to the Mona Lisa painting – and the Arc De Triomphe.

The best time to visit Paris is June to October.

P.S. The crepes are way better in France.

Barcelona, Spain

If you’re a football fan, you may be intrigued by The Camp Nou Stadium, home to FC Barcelona, one of the most well-known and successful football clubs in the world.

Barcelona is also famously known for its architecture and iconic buildings, such as La Sagrada Familia, which combines elements of Spanish Late Gothic Design, Catalan Modernism and Art Nouveau. Tickets cost about 26€ and include an audio guide for individual exploration.

In addition to the beautiful sights to see, the nightlife and street festivals in Barcelona, make it one of the most lively and vibrant cities in the world. Las Ramblas is a street in the heart of the city famous for its street performers and restaurants.

The best time to visit Barcelona is in May and June.

Looking for a relaxing vacation with stunning views? Look no further than Santorini, Greece.

Santorini is one of the Cyclades islands. Located on the island of Santorini, is the coastal town of Oia. This town is most known for its collection of Blue Church Domes, creating a picturesque view – especially during sunset. The sunsets in Santorini are some of the best in the world and speaking from experience, this is 100% true.

There are many different hotels and villas you can rent in the town of Oia to make sure you can see the sunset every day of your vacation.

The best time to visit Santorini is April/May and September/October.

The Capital of Italy, and a city with rich ancient history, Rome is a site you want to see!

Rome is home to some of the most amazing Italian foods and beautiful architecture that is sure to leave you amazed.

Make sure to stop by the Trevi Fountain to make a wish. Legends say tossing one coin into the fountain means you will return to the Eternal City, tossing two coins means you will return to the city and fall in love, tossing three coins means you will return, find love and get married!

Other sites to see include the Colosseum, the world’s largest amphitheatre. Tickets to enter the amphitheatre cost about 21,50€.

Also check out Vatican City, the smallest country in the world surrounded by Rome!

The best time to visit Rome is October to April

Budva, Montenegro

"At the birth of our planet, the most beautiful encounter between land and sea happened on the coast of Montenegro." - Lord Byron

Budva, may not be as well-known or popular as the other destinations on my list, which is why I think this underrated vacation spot deserves some recognition.

Explore the old town of Budva, with a history that dates back to 2500 years ago, and enjoy a meal at one of the many cafés or restaurants.

Or take a drive to visit Sveti Stefan, a cluster of houses with terracotta rooftops with a history dating back to the 15th century and one of Montenegro’s most photographed spots. Although the islet has been turned into a 5-star hotel, and cannot be accessed by the public, the views can still be seen from the local bus, which costs about 4€ roundtrip.

Budva has a variety of beautiful beaches and plenty of nightlife to keep you entertained all vacation long!

The best time to visit Budva is between June and September.
